Why Medicare Supplements (Medigap)?

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) covers a lot, but not everything—leaving you with deductibles, 20% coinsurance, and no out-of-pocket maximum. That’s where a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy comes in, paying those leftover costs and giving you peace of mind. For example, Medicare Part B usually covers 80% of outpatient services. With a Supplement Plan G, after a small annual Part B deductible, your plan pays the rest—so you owe $0 for covered doctor and hospital care.

Benefits of Medicare Supplement Insurance

Coleman & Associates works with all major Medigap insurers in Kentucky—Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, Mutual of Omaha, and more. Rates can vary widely for the exact same Plan G or N, so we help you compare prices to find the best premium for your needs. Our goal: get you the right coverage, at the lowest cost, from a company you can trust.

Plan G, Plan N, Plan F—What’s the Difference?

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are standardized by letter—A, B, C, D, F, G, N, and more. In Kentucky, most new enrollees choose Plan G (covers everything except the Part B deductible) or Plan N (similar, but with lower premiums and small copays for office/ER visits). Plan F is only available to those eligible before 2020. No matter which insurance company you buy from, Plan G is Plan G—coverage is identical by law. The only difference is price and service, making it crucial to compare before you choose.

When & How to Enroll—Timing Matters

You can buy any Medigap plan during your six-month Open Enrollment window, which starts when your Part B coverage begins. During this time, you have guaranteed issue rights—no health questions, no underwriting. After that, you may face health questions and possible denial based on your medical history, making your first choice especially important. That’s why we recommend meeting with an advisor to compare your options early and avoid missing this crucial window.

Medigap Questions—Answered

  • What do Medicare Supplements cover?

Depending on the plan, Medigap pays most or all costs not paid by Medicare—deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. Plan G is the most comprehensive for new enrollees.

  • How do I choose between Plan G and Plan N?

Plan G covers almost everything except a small annual Part B deductible. Plan N offers lower premiums with modest copays for doctor and ER visits. We’ll help you compare based on your expected health needs.

  • Do I need a Supplement if I have Medicare?

If you want maximum protection and the freedom to see any provider, yes. Supplements fill gaps that Original Medicare leaves, capping your annual costs.

  • How does Medigap compare to Advantage?

Medigap offers broader provider choice and lower out-of-pocket costs; Advantage plans can include extra benefits but use local networks and may have more copays. We’ll review the pros and cons of each so you can choose with confidence.

  • Can I keep my doctor?

Yes—if your doctor accepts Medicare, they accept your Supplement plan. No networks or referrals needed.
